The American Physical Society (APS) March Meeting of 1987 - The 'Woodstock of Physics' was held in New York City. The significance of this meeting was to announce the development of new, high-temperature superconducting materials. In the March 18 sessions papers were given, starting at 7:30pm and lasting until 3:15am. In this photo, scientists meet the press the day after the sessions. Explaining the new findings to attentive reporters are (seated at table, left to right) Karl Muller, Paul C. W. Chu, Philip W. Anderson, M. Brian Maple, Shoji Tanaka, Zhao Zhongxian, Robert Cava and Koichi Kitazawa.
