Description:

L-R Yardley Beers and Samuel Weisbaum work with the first spectrometer of the Low Frequency Absorption project at New York University. This employed 20 feet of 'S-band' Waveguide with Stark Electrode. This was the first used to study spectrum of HDO (see Weisbaum, Beers, and Herrmann - Journal Chemistry Physics 23, 1601 1955), and it was used with many of the experiments which followed. This spectrometer was used to frequencies as low as 300 MHz by using the Stark electrode as a r. f. conducter (i.e., the cell became a coax transmission line).
