Caption courtesy D. Allan Bromley: "The first EN tandem [particle] accelerator installed in its shielding vault at the Chalk River Laboratories of Atomic Energy of Canada, Ltd., in 1959. In the foreground is the precision magnet that defined the beam energy and to the left is the switch magnet that directed the analyzed beam into selected target locations beyond the shield wall. The is accelerator has a maximum terminal potential of 5 MV."
