The experimental floor of Brookhaven National Laboratory's High Flux Beam Reactor (HFBR). The 60-megawatt High Flux Beam Reactor is one of the most advanced research reactors in the world. It produces intense beams of neutrons which are used as probes to investigate the structure of atoms and molecules. Major research programs are carried out at the HFBR in chemistry, biology, and nuclear and solid state physics. The HFBR is the only research reactor of its type in the Western Hemisphere.
