'The Rancho Santa Fe Conference was an interdisciplinary gathering devoted to the origin and early history of the earth. Among the participants were Harrison Brown, Maurice Ewing, David Griggs, Beno Gutenberg, Linus Pauling, Roger Revelle, William W. Rubey, Louis Slichter, Edward Teller, Harold C. Urey, John Verhoogen, and Fred Whipple.'
