Description:

Harvard College Observatory as it appeared in the 1920's when Harlow Shapley first became director. The brick building to the left housed the collection of photgraphic plates; but in 1932 the much larger Building "D" was added for this purpose just in front. The dome of 15-inch telescope, once a twin for the largest refractor in the world, was flanked at the back by the Observatory residence and in the front by the Library, Building "A".
