The nation's largest and most powerful research reactor, located at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, Long Island, New York. Dr. Leland J. Haworth (left), Director of Brookhaven National Laboratory, and Dr. Marvin J. Fox (right), Assistant Chairman of the Reactor Science and Engineering Department, examine a shielded cask near an experimental face of the nuclear reactor. The cask is used for the charging and discharging of the target conveyor which accomplishes the irradiation of special materials.
