Description: 

Howard and Clayton in Howard's Livermore home.  Mike Howard did his PhD thesis with Clayton at Rice University during 1970-73.  Howard has been an undergraduate at Baylor University in Waco, TX.  He accompanied Clayton several times to Cambridge for research at Hoyle's institute and became a fixture of the 'Rice mafia' in Cambridge. Howard's work included studies of explosive Helium burning in supernova shells and the origin of rare nuclei from seen nuclei in that process (ApJ 1971).
