The American Physical Society (APS) March Meeting of 1987 - The 'Woodstock of Physics' was held in New York City. The significance of this meeting was to announce the development of new, high-temperature superconducting materials. In the March 18 sessions papers were given, starting at 7:30pm and lasting until 3:15am. At a science writers seminar on condensed matter physics from left to right: Richard Zallen (Virginia Polytech), Martin Blume (Brookhaven National Lab, later APS editor in chief), and Robert Dynes (Bell Labs, later president of the University of California.
